Minimum Breeding Age Update

Dogs Victoria have confirmed and endorsed The Irish Setter Club of Vic Inc recommendation that the minimum breeding age for Irish Setter bitches be changed from 12 months to 18 months.

The Dogs Victoria regulations have been updated with the change that will be effective from 15 December 2023.

……The Irish Setter Club Inc requests that the age of 18 months minimum breeding age for Irish Setter bitches be reinstated as gazetted in 2011.

The request is following ongoing ISCV Inc. AGM resolutions.

2023 ISCV Inc. AGM resolution moved by Denis Everard and Rhonda Fisher to reinstate the breeding age of Irish Setters back to club submitted age of 18 months from the Dogs Vic adjusted age of 12 months.

2022 ISCV Inc. AGM resolution moved by Peter Austin and Diane Anderson to reinstate the breeding age of Irish Setters back to club submitted age of 18 months from the Dogs Vic adjusted age of 12 months.

2014 ISCV Inc AGM resolution moved by Greg Browne and Anne- Marie Hearn endorsed age of 18 months as the minimum breeding age for an Irish Setter bitch.

The Minimum Breeding Age for Bitches Irish Setter, 18 months was declared in the Dogs Vic Gazette 2011. This followed consultation and recommendation from The Irish Setter Club of Victoria Inc and its members.

The alteration from 18 months to 12 months in 2018 was not a consultative process undertaken with The Irish Setter Club of Victoria Inc and its members.

20.1.12 The minimum age for breeding a bitch shall be 12 months [see attached Minimum Breeding Age for Bitches]. (15/11/18) ……
