                   49th CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

Introducing our Judge for the ISCV 49th Championship Show 2010.

Maureen A. Day (USA)

PROFILE:      I have been involved in the competitive dog world since the early 1970's.  I acquired my first dog and as is the case with most people, I showed him once and was hooked.   I finished my first bitch, bred her and several of her offspring were titled in confirmation and obedience.   From there I bred on a limited basis but continued to show my own and some of my friends dogs to some incredible and exciting wins.  After many years of showing and judging some sweepstakes classes, I investigated the possibility of applying for approval to judge.  I found that judging is a very rewarding and interesting aspect of the competitive dog show world.

I have held almost every position in our local Irish Setter club and I am currently the Historian/Archivist for the Irish Setter Club of America.

EXPERIENCE:

I currently judge, Irish, English, and Gordon Setters, Golden Retrievers, American and English Cocker Spaniels, Pointers and Springer Spaniels.

I've judged several Irish Setter Specialties all over the United States.   I also judged an Irish Setter Specialty in Japan.   It is very interesting to see your own breed from one coast to the other in your own country.  It is quite another thing to see your breed in a place like Japan where the breed lines are so different.

I would say that the highlight of my judging career was being asked to judge the Irish Setter Club of America's National Specialty in Michigan.   I judged Best of Breed at this record entry breaking event. To say that was an honor is an understatement, it truly was a thrill.

During the course of my judging,  I have had many wonderful experiences not only in  having the opportunity to put my hands on some fabulous dogs,  but also in meeting some wonderfully knowledgeable people from around the world.  This aspect has given me an enormous opportunity to talk about, compare and share information about dogs with fellow dog fanciers from many areas outside of my own.

PERSONAL:

I currently work full time in the transportation industry as an Operations Specialist.  I have two daughters and reside on Long Island NY which is about 20 miles outside of New York City.

Ms Carrie Paine will host Mrs Day whilst she is in Australia later this year. Unfortunately, this will mean that Carrie will not be entering our Championship Show and although we will enjoy her company we will not enjoy the company of her excellent ‘four-legged friends’ this year.
